Round-up of Club news 2018

Club stalwarts remove boats from North Pond

On what turned out to be a beautiful, calm day, Sunday, November 4, all six boats were removed from the North Pond.
The boats were given a general tidy up before being stored for the winter.
Any maintenance required will be undertaken during the coming months.
Club president, Ian McLean, would like to thank everyone who came to help.
That help is much appreciated.

Works starts to clean out boat number 6 (above), and, right, Brian blasts the floorboards with the power washer – while the others stand well back to avoid a drookin’!

Willie hooks a cracker!

Willie Milne (pictured safely returning the fish) caught this magnificent rainbow on the Island Pond on Monday, September 17. The reel he placed beside it in the net is four inches in diameter, so you can estimate the length of the body. Surely the biggest fish – reckoned to be eight to ten pounds – caught this year.
Congratulations, Willie, and good that you returned it to the water, as perhaps all specimen-sized fish should be.

DI 5 line sweeps Neil to club championship

The Club Championship was held on Friday, May 25, with Neil Anderson triumphant.
There was a full turn-out for what was a highly competitive competition, fished in difficult weather conditions with gusty NE winds.
Kenny Dickson was a close second, and Aaron Philip third.
Neil kept two fish for 3 lb 11 oz, and returned five (10 lb) for a total notional weigh-in of 13 lb 11 oz.
Among other tactics, Neil had five rainbows, fishing a DI 5 sweep line with a Buzzer between Boobies, and two on a floating line with Hare’s Ear and CDC.
Kenny kept two fish for 4 lb 6 oz and returned four (8 lb) for a total weigh-in of 12 lb 6 oz.
Aaron kept two fish for 3 lb 12 oz and returned two fish (4 lb) for a total weigh-in of 7 lb 12 oz.

Peter’s so proud of his big brownie

When Peter Craft set out for what he imagined would be a normal day’s fishing on the Island Pond, he had no idea his outing would catch him a possible fish of the month.
But this fish wasn’t just another rainbow, not even just another brownie.
No, Peter hooked into a beautiful 4 lb 14 oz "tagged" Brownie, which won him a fishing voucher.
The monster brownie took a Diawl Bach nymph, fished on a 3ft sink tip line.
Peter had made a shrewd decision to fish away from other boats, and drifted right across the middle of the pond.
That’s when the monster struck, bringing a huge smile to Peter’s face.
Well done, Peter.
